NUMALIGARH: Timber smugglers attacked two foresters who had gone inside the dense forest of Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary in Golaghat district on Thursday.

The foresters went out from their Paharline post under Juriadolong forest beat following a tip-off about timber being smuggled. One of the foresters, Muhibul Hussain received severe injuries while the other, Jibon Gogoi luckily escaped the attack.

According to Forest Divisional Officer, Golaghat, Bhaskar Deka, an attempt to murder case has been filed by Golaghat Police. The culprits, however, could not be identified. The timber smugglers hit Muhibul Hussain with a sharp machete from a short distance. Hussain sustained grave injuries on his hand in the attack and was later rushed to Golaghat KK Civil Hospital. Forest range officer Pushpadhar Borgohain said that the culprits would not get away easily. He said that the forest department would soon identify the culprits involved and they would be punished as per law.
