TINSUKIA: Following the death of two workers due to inhalation of poisonous gas in an illegal coal mine in Lalmati of Tirap Colliery in Ledu under Margherita subdivision on January 20, the Tinsukia district committee of Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) has reacted sharply and demanded a high-level inquiry and suitable compensation.
The ATTSA submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia in this regard on Wednesday. According to memorandum, two workers, namely Bijoy Mura of Makum's Paschim Mamoroni village and Kartik Gowala of Bordumsa, who died inside the mine, were allegedly cremated by the owner of the coal mine without performing post-mortem examination after threatening the family members. The ATTSA demanded a one-time ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh for the family members and to bear complete educational expenses of their children by the government, besides to arrest the owner of the illegal mine.
