TINSUKIA: In response to the call of the All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF), the Tinsukia division of NFR Mazdoor Union (NFRMU) staged a protest against the New Pension Scheme (NPS) of the Central Government on Monday. The Union demanded the restoration of the old pension scheme after rolling back anti-employees NPS which was made effective from 1.1.2004.

In a statement to the press, Pulak Gogoi, central organisational secretary of NFRMU and convener of Tinsukia division said that the NFRMU had been continuously agitating against the NPS since it was launched during the tenure of then BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but no heed was paid to their demand. It was a hard blow to the social responsibilities of the employees even as MLAs & MPs elected for 5 years have been enjoying the privilege of OPS, Gogoi said.

All the 52 branches of NFRMU under Katihar, Alipur, Rangia, Maligaon HQ and Lumding participated in the agitation while New Tinsukia, Tinsukia, Ledu, Dibrugarh, Simulguri, Furkating under Tinsukia Division observed protest at their respective offices.
