TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Electrical Circle comprising of Tinsukia district and part of Dibrugarh district has been facing acute financial stress and unable to undertake infrastructural development as it owes huge amount of revenue amounting to more than Rs 106 crore to consumers including government establishments.

In a press release, the Chief Executive Officer of Tinsukia Electrical Circle APDCL Dulal Chandra Das stated that out of Rs 106.46 crore, the arrear against government establishments stood at Rs 1.17 crore. Presently 25 substations out of 31 33/11 kV substations have been functioning that supply 2,76,117 consumers through 3,527 number of transformers which included industrial, commercial, residential and tea gardens while renovation and installation of six substations have been undertaken. Though pilferage of power by hooking reduced considerably, in rural areas the practice has been still prevalent which often caused accidental death, Das pointed out adding that to mitigate such accidents the un-insulated overhead power lines have been replaced by Aerial Bundled Cables (AB Cables) to a major extent and needed to be done more.

The release, however, did not mention the period from which this arrear accumulated and also the amount carried over from erstwhile ASEB.
