TINSUKIA: Even after 36-hours of sensational oil theft case that rocked Tinsukia on Sunday night, the Tinsukia police are yet to make any headway in apprehending the culprits even as six oil tankers had been seized from a hideout at Hijuguri on the outskirts of Tinsukia town.

Claiming that all the oil tankers were empty at the time of raid, ASP Asif Ahmed said the thieves involved in pilfering the oil from the tankers fled under the cover of darkness. The police claim to have failed to trace the owners of the tankers nor anyone had claimed the ownership of the tankers as yet. The police finally seized four tankers- AS-01 EC-4398, AS-23 BC0485, AS-23-AC-5809 and AS-01-JC-2457 while two tankers – AS-06-D-9758 and AS-23-AC-2435 were left in a garage owned by Md Sultan Ahmed. Intriguingly, according to sources, all the tankers barring one (AS-23AC-2435) are owned by Md Sultan Ahmed who is a resident of Tinsukia close to Hijuguri.
