GAURISAGAR: Nitul Gogoi, a Subedar ( No JC 551652K) belonging to 8 Assam Regiment and posted at Siachen Glacier, passed away in battle casualty on March 13 because of complications arising from exposure to extreme climatic conditions prevailing at the Glacier.

Nitul Gogoi was the son of Moina Gogoi and Kanchan Gogoi of Khanamukh Tipomia village under Gaurisagar Police station in Sivasagar district. His mortal remains were brought by a special aircraft to Mohanbari on Monday. Thereafter, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Mohanbari. His body was brought by the Army unit to his village.

Soon after his body reached Khanamukh Tiniali, the villages escorted the body with the procession of gayan bayan. The villagers bid a tearful adieu and lit an earthen lamp in front of their houses for his eternal peace. Later, a team of Army personnel from 41 Sub Area Jorhat performed the ceremonial funeral parade at the deceased's funeral.

Before cremation, a shraddhanjali function was held where Army Officials of no. 41 and 101 Sub area, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Borah, Amitav Sinha, Superintendent of Police of Sivasagar, Prodip Hazarika, AGP-BJP candidate of Amguri LAC, Chandra Baruah, the AJP and Raijor Dal candidate, and other dignitaries paid floral tribute to the body of the martyr.

His last rites were performed in the presence of a large gathering of people near his residence with state military honour. He is survived by his wife, two minor children and his mother.
