LAKHIMPUR: In respect of holding the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council (TKAC) Election, 2022, the Governor of Assam has declared dry days in the poll-bound areas of the State under the autonomous council concerned on January 19- the pre-poll day, January 20- the poll day and January 24-the day of counting, by issuing an order under 326 (A) of Assam Excise Rules, 2016 and under Section 135C of the representation of the People's Act, 195 of Election Rules. During these days, the order has prohibited the possession of any intoxicants by any person or by group of persons. The order has also banned sale of liquor, giving or distribution of any spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquor or other substances of alike nature at hotels, public eating houses, taverns, shops or any place— public or private on these days. The observance of dry day on the day of counting on January 24 will be continued until the process of counting is over.

In connection with this order issued by the Governor, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur has also declared dry days on the stipulated days in poll-bound areas of the district under the TKAC by issuing an order vide No. LEX.28/2022/13 dated January 17. The areas falling under the dry days of the district are- No. 16 Bongalmora (East Dikrong ST) constituency covering Mornoi Thengal, Padumoni Thengal, Dhaldhalia Gandhia (Pokadol), Bongalmora Thengal, Naharani, Namchuk, Bongalmora Karipukhuri villages, No. 17 Pabho (Laluk ST) constituency covering Dalapa Pothar, Kachajuli, Jariguri, No. 14 Bishnupur Thengal Baligaon, Gabharu Tunijan, Garhmur, Rangajan Baligaon, Lukampur, Sonapur, Punia Pothar, No. 2 Sonapur villages, No. 18 Lakhimpur East (Woman ST) constituency covering Khaga-Tinikhuti, Kutuhaguri, Kuchiamari, Thengal, Kadam Kachari Thengal, No 1 Bokanala, No. 2 Bokanala, Telahi Majgaon, Sonardheki Gaonburha Chuk, Bodhakora Thengal villages, No, 19 Bihpuriya South (ST) constituency covering Kawoimari, Moricha Pothar, Khulaguri, Boraikhana, Bagicha Gaon villages, No, 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoti (ST) constituency covering Banderdewa (Baligaon), Borkhet, Jokaipeluwa, Bogoriguri-Harmoti, Anchibari, Parbotipur Harmoti, Gutibari Harmoti, Loribhanga villages.

According to the order, bonded warehouse, IMFL retails Off/On, shops including the club on and the country spirit retail shops in the election areas will remain close in the dry days. Storage of liquor by any individual for any individual is curtailed during the dry days. Further, any storage of liquor in any unlicensed premises will be enforced as per restrictions provided in the Excise Law during the dry days. Any violation of the order will be treated under the provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules in the respective constituencies.
