BARPETA: The Police of Barpeta, Barpeta Road and Howly, seized a Tokey Gecko (Keko snake) from the Howly Bazar area on Sunday. The Police arrested five persons in this regard. Police sources informed that Rafiqul Islam of Goalpara had brought the Tokey Gecko from Meghalaya. The keko snake was kept in the house of Jakir Hussain of Hatijana in Howly by Ragiwul Islam of Goalpara and Jamaluddin of Khandakarpara. They kept it for 15 days.

And on Sunday, while two persons identified as Sumitra Devi of Duliajan and Papu Dev of Sadiya came to buy that Tokey Gecko for an amount of Rs 70 lakh, the police caught them in the house of Jakir Hussain of Hatijana. The length of the snake is 15 inches. It will be handed over to the authority of Manas National Park.

The Police officials who participated in this operation are Samir Daptar Baruah -- Barpeta Sadar DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police); Debananda Das, in-charge of Howly Police Station; Ranjan Doley, in-charge of Barpeta Sadar Police Station; Surjya Kumar Bora, Barpeta Town Sub Inspector and Abhijit Baruah, in-charge of Barpeta Road Police Station.
