DIGBOI: In a landmark development centering around the enhancement of existing bonhomie and goodwill between the states of Assam and Arunachal, the Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia and nearby Namsai, Changlang, and Lohit of Arunachal districts attended the peace initiative meet here on Friday morning at the conference hall of the Margherita Block office.

The meeting was organized by the inter-state peace and coordination committee with Tinsukia SP Debajit Deori in the chair while Mihin Gambo, the SP of Changlang, SP Namsai Dr. DW Thongon, and Sangee Thinley, DSP of Lohit, Pranab Kumar Pegu, the ASP(security and Int), Lod Tari, the OC Special Branch Namsai, and Hemanta Kumar Boro, the SDP Margherita, graced the significant episode to enrich the house, discuss at length and explore various means to enhance the existing inter-state bond irrespective of physical boundaries and other petty differences if any, among these adjacent districts for the realization of common objectives.

The inter-state peace and coordination committee was constituted earlier in 2018 during a meeting held at the office of the SP Tinsukia with the then SP Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta in the chair, which was attended by like-minded people from across several inter-state districts under the peace initiatives of Assam Police. The house had decided unanimously to work jointly for common good cementing the bond between the two states by means of mutual assistance and understanding.

The cross-border felicitation of the top cops in a traditional spirit by the members and among themselves by each other was noteworthy which signified goodwill and appreciation towards each other.

Meanwhile, Laxman Sharma, the coordinator of the committee, highlighted to the house the mode of functioning and achievements of the peace group over a period of time. The committee is most active in social media platform functions across borders in liaison with the respective police stations of the Assam-Arunachal districts to ensure that no one is discriminated against inter-state or on the ground of any differences and assist each other during the time of need, thus building a sense of goodwill, trust, and security.

While lauding the efforts and initiatives of the peace committee, the SP Changlang reiterated that at a time when both the Assam and Arunachal governments are actively devising the ways and means to promote peace and bonhomie between the states, the role and functions of the committee at the grassroots level holds relevance. He urged the committee to expand its functioning and reach out to the people across the states and sensitize them to work together and promote cordial relations among the people.

"The platform has indeed brought us very close to each other unmindful of existing petty differences, which I believe will go a long way to erase certain misconceptions among a section of the people of both the states," said Dr. DW Thongon the SP Namsai.

Meanwhile, Sangey Thinley the Deputy SP Lohit, said that the group had a greater role to play in the days to come, besides urging the committee to extend its functioning up to Sadiya, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji districts. Matters related to ILP and its implications in a protected state like Arunachal were also underlined.

Debajit Deori, the SP of Tinsukia, assured of extending all cooperation to ensure that the relation between the people of these districts of Arunachal would be taken care of immediately here in the Tinsukia district as and when required.

Various representatives of the committee from all the districts of Tinsukia, Namsai, Lohit, Changlang, and Lower Debang valley were also present at the meeting.
