Traffic Congestion Problem Worsens in Dibrugarh Town

A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: The problem of traffic congestion that has been plaguing the town for long has raised its ugly head once again. Given the festive occasion, the streets are seeing a sharp rise in the number of all kinds of vehicles, especially passenger cars.

Both on Saturday and Friday, cars were spotted being at a virtual standstill. Such was the condition that even the vehicles coming from a different direction came to a halt as they could not move further due to the traffic snarl in front of them. The sudden change in the weather and the drizzle that it brought along, only made the traffic condition more bothersome for the people. Roads like RKB Path, particularly, bore the brunt of such heavy traffic. Being the connecting road to the most popular market area of the town, most vehicles, both the ones from the town and those coming from across the Brahmaputra, flocked the road.

The parking space allotted for four-wheelers along the road has only made the street narrower. Despite anticipating such heavy traffic and the resultant congestion during festive seasons, the authorities concerned seem to have put such issues on the back burner. A multi-level parking lot, somewhere in the vicinity of the market area, remains to be the need of the hour.
