KOKRAJHAR: Chirang district administration is all set to conduct free, fair and safe election in the 31- Sidli (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) as it has already completed its preparations in all aspects.

It has so far made more than 40 cells fully functional and started imparting training to around 1,620 polling personnel, which include presiding, first polling, second polling and third polling officers.

As per the training schedule, the first phase training for 150 officials of NTPC, Salakati to be engaged as polling personnel was organized on March 2 and March 3. Accordingly, 391 each presiding and first polling officers were given training on March 4 and the rest second and third polling officers of the same number would be provided training on March 5 in the first phase training.

The district administration has also arranged second and third phase training for these officers. The second training will be held on March 12 and March 13 at UN Brahma College and UN Brahma Junior College, Kajalgaon. The training for polling personnel covered theoretical aspects as per RP Act 1951. Their roles and responsibilities at the time of poll, before poll and after poll, including COVID-19 protocol to be followed during election, were also explained to them. All the participants were also given hands-on training on EVM and VVPAT handling.

Supervising the training venues, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Chirang advised all to diligently learn during the training and discharge their duties with full dedication and sincerity. He said that it was the responsibility of all to ensure fair conduct of elections in the district.

A total of 27 Master Trainers are giving training to the polling personnel in Chirang election district. There are 326 polling stations with 57 auxiliary polling stations and total 2,05,038 voters with 1,02,586 male, 1,02,446 female and six third gender, including 677 service voters, in 31-Sidli (ST) LAC. Among them, the district has already identified 494 PwD voters and 2,653 80 years plus voters and has taken steps for their postal ballot facility.
