MORIGAON: A two-day long training on "Resource Efficient Crop Establishment Method" was organized here at Pohar Agro Producer Company ltd. at Borchola village of Lahorighat development block. The programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Morigaon in collaboration with International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART).

The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Suryakant Khandai, Associate Scientist and Dr. Kasturi Goswami from IRRI Guwahati Office. Dr. Pinki Pathak and Sanju Borgohain from KVK Morigaon were also present in the training.

About 30 farmers from 5 villages attended the training. Sanju, Assistant Project Scientist welcomed the participants and briefed about the APART and objectives of the training. Dr. Suryakanta Khandai explained in details about various technologies that have been promoted in Assam as alternative to manual transplanting such as Mechanical Transplanter, Wet Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) and Dry Direct Seeded Rice. He also explained the cost benefit ratio of each technology along with the business opportunities in the rice value chain. Dr. Goswami gave a lecture on various pre and post emergence herbicides, their doses and spraying techniques.

The second day of the training was attended by Vipin Kumar and Dr. Sunil Kumar, Specialists from IRRI. Dr. Sunil enlightened the farmers with various biological and physical pest and disease control alternatives to chemical pesticides such as use of Tricho Cards, Pheromon Traps and T perches etc. Vipin informed the farmers about nutrient management in paddy cultivation, stated a press release.
