DIBRUGARH: A 12-day long self-financed skill development training on insecticide management was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh at its office premise with the joint initiative of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and the Department of Agriculture, Assam. The training was constantly guided and monitored by the Director of Extension Educational Jorhat, Dr Manoranjan Neog and senior scientist of KVK Dibrugarh, Dr Diganta Sharmah.
The entire hands-on training programme was smoothly coordinated by the Course Coordinator, Dr Sanghamitra Sarma, in association with other scientists and staff of the Kendra. Delivering a keynote lecture virtually, Dr Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat encouraged all the participants with his speech and emphasized delivering due services to the farming community as they are the customers of the insecticide business.
Jitu Kumar Das, the DDC of Dibrugarh district who participated in the valedictory session as chief guest, opined that the training was very appropriate and beneficial to all the participants who are directly associated with the business of selling insecticides or pesticides because it will encourage safe use and recommendation of insecticides in agriculture and secure human health. District Agricultural Officer Ganesh Lahon, who took the lead in facilitating the training programme, urged all participants to keep close touch with the department for availing suitable services on a regular basis.
Dr Hemchandra Saikia of KVK Dibrugarh informed that the main purpose of this training programme was to equip personnel engaged in the insecticide business with proper technical knowledge so that they can handle and manage the business of insecticides very safely for the greater interest of sound human health, sustainable agriculture and pollution-free environment.
Altogether 72 lectures were delivered by reputed resource persons belonging to various reputed institutions like Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, ADOs of District Agricultural Office Dibrugarh, Director of RSETI office Dibrugarh, Subject Matter Specialists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Tinsukia, Dhemaji, and Sivasagar, in addition to the experts, Dr SB Saikia, Chayanika Thakuria and Shantonu Paul of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh.
