TEZPUR: A two-day training on seeding to harvesting, drying, storage and processing of rice was held under APART project at KVK Sonitpur with technical support of IRRI (International Rice Research Institute). The training was attended by nearly 30 farmers of Sonitpur district.

The programme started with an welcome address by Dr. Roji Chutia, Subject Matter Specialist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur. During her speech, she spoke about the objectives of the training programme and importance of scientific methods of rice cultivation. Vipin Kumar, Specialist of IRRI and Dr Gayatree Goswami and Dr Shabrin Ahmed, Scientists under APART project acted as resource persons for the above programme.

The participants were made aware of latest technologies of rice cultivation. The proper method and time of application of fertilizers and pesticides in field was well explained by them to the participants. They also elaborated about the advantages of use of technologies like mechanical rice cultivation using a paddy transplanter and direct seeding of rice using drum seeder and seed-cum-fertilizer drill. Different machineries used for drying and processing of paddy was well explained to the participants. Rupsikha Goswami, Assistant Project Scientist under APART also assisted in imparting training to the participants.
