TEZPUR: A three-day training programme was conducted at KVK, Sonitpur from June 6 to June 8, under APART with technical support from International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

The main objective of the training was to impart knowledge to Farmer Producer Companies (FRCs) about different technologies which are required for strengthening FPCs. A total of 25 farmers from three FPCs, namely Geuti A Garaka, Sootea, Biswanath, Nobomilan Agro Producer Co. Ltd, Sonitpur and Den Multipurpose Agro Produce Company, Lakhimpur participated.

Dr Roji Chutia, SMS, Agronomy, Nodal Officer, APART, KVK, Sonitpur welcomed the participants and explained the importance of direct seeding of rice. Vivek Kumar and Ankita Sahu, IRRI, Scientist acted as resource persons for the training and discussed different methods of Integrated weed management, Nursery management and Mechanical Transplanting of rice. A practical demonstration programme on mechanical transplanter and mat nursery preparation was also held by Goutam Borah, Debajit Bhuyan and Rajib Sahu, Research Technicians under APART of KVK Sonitpur. The FPCs members were satisfied with the training programme and provided their valuable feedback at the end.
