Training programme on capacity building concludes at Dibrugarh University

DIBRUGARH: A training programme on Capacity Building and Leadership Development organized by the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University (DU) in the campus, concluded on Saturday.

The training programme saw the participation of more than 500 volunteers from around 50 NSS College Units under the administrative control of the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University. Participants started the second day with a Yoga Session in the morning which was led by Rajkumar Bharali, Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports who is also an Yoga Expert.

The next session was held on ICT Skills and Role of Youth where Dr Himadri Barman, Assistant Professor, Centre for Management Studies and Assistant Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University was the resource person. He talked on the importance of ICT and stressed its proper use so that the volunteers can take maximum benefits while managing to stay out of the adverse effects like social media addiction.

The third session was taken by Dr. Amar Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Dibrugarh University and Programme Officer, NSS DU PG Unit on NEP 2020 and Role of Youth. He quizzed the participants on their understanding of NEP 2020 and gave various clarifications.

The final session of the day was taken by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Sahewalla, renowned physician and owner of Aditya Hospitals at Dibrugarh. He deliberated on stress, anxiety and youth. In his sublime talk, he went down memory lane and shared anecdotes on his life to explain the causes of stress and anxiety. He called upon the volunteers also to identify the causes that may lead to stress and anxiety so that timely preventive measures may be taken. He also asked volunteers to lead a disciplined life and pay attention to time management to have a more fruitful life. According to him, people should dream big and stay away from negativities.

The training programme ended with the valedictory function where Prof. Surajit Borkotoky, Professor, Department of Mathematics and Chief Warden, Dibrugarh University was the chief guest.

In his brief speech, he remarked that he was hopeful about the takeaways from the training programme vis-à-vis the participants and was happy about the successful conclusion of the programme. Dr Devid Kardong, the Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University also briefly spoke and thanked everyone in successfully conducting the programme.

The first day of the training programme was eventful with sessions taken by Dr. Gayatri Gogoi on Cancer Awareness and Importance of Soft Skills for Day to day Life by Hemchandra Dutta. Also, the first ever award ceremony of the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University under various categories was held in the august presence of Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State, Government of India along with Rituparna Baruah, Chairman, ATDC; Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. L K Nath; Registrar of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jiten Hazarika; Prof. Nirode Baruah, Dean, Student's Welfare, Dibrugarh University; Dr. Paramananda Sonowal, Joint Registrar (Administration), Dibrugarh University, Dr. Devid Kardong and Dr. Himadri Barman.

Awards were presented under the categories of Best NSS Volunteer, Best Programme Officer, Best NSS Unit, Best Promising Unit, Lifetime Contribution for the years 2017 – 18 to 2021 – 22. Special awards were also given t recognize the fight against Covid – 19 at the Programme Officer and Unit level.
