LAKHIMPUR: A two-day long training programme on complementary feeding innovation kick-started in Lakhimpur district on Friday.

The district-level training programme was organized at District Library auditorium by District Social Welfare Department under the Poshan Abhiyan in collaboration with UNICEF. The Child Development Project Officers, Supervisors, district and block level officers under Poshan Abhiyan have taken part as trainees of training programme.

The first 1,000 days of a child's life — from conception through age two — is a critical window of opportunity to ensure child survival, optimal growth, cognitive development, and lifelong health. According to experts' opinion, adequate nutrition during infancy and early childhood is critical to the development of a child's full human potential, and for this complementary feeding needs more focus in order to meet the aims of the flagship Poshan Abhiyaan. Under such circumstances, stress at present has been laid on complementary feeding innovation in order to realize the main objectives of the Poshan Abhiyan by fighting malnutrition among children.

The inaugural session of the training programme was held under the management of Child Protection Officers Smritirekha Dutta Borah. It was inaugurated by ADC Manorama Morang by lighting the ceremonial lamp. In her speech, the ADC highlighted the importance of nutrition to the children, milk-feeding mothers and pregnant women. She called upon all trainee officers to be well-trained in order to create extensive awareness on complementary feeding innovation among public and mothers' community. State Nutrition Consultant of Poshan Abhiyan, Geetalee Borah and State Nutrition Consultant of UNICEF, Geetashri Phukan took part in the programme as resource persons. District Social Welfare Officer-in-charge Mostafa Salim Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.

Joint Director of Health Services Dr Mahendra Das, District Officer of Poshan Abhiyan Bishnu Sarmah, District Women Welfare Officer Prangana Borah, DIPRO Mandira Chayengiya, Assistant Commissioner Smritirekha Hazarika were among those who were present in the programme.
