A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: A three-day training programme aimed at ensuring the security of school students at the time of disasters like earthquake and fire started on Wednesday under National School Safety Policy. The programme has the participation of the nodal teachers of 54 schools. Jointly organized by District Disaster Management Authority, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and Education Department, the programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha. He said that once the programme was over, each of the schools was required to submit a school safety plan to Disaster Management Authority before November 15.

Highlighting the fact that the north-eastern region, including Assam, was vulnerable to earthquakes, and that incidents of life-threatening storm and lightning were common in the State, Jha urged the schools to be ready for all possible eventualities.
