Training programme on 'Resource Efficient Crop Management Methods' held in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A day-long training programme on Resource Efficient Crop Management Methods and Best Management Practices of Rice was conducted under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), North Lakhimpur on Tuesday.

The programme was graced by RARS, North Lakhimpur chief scientist Dr. Prabal Saikia, Junior Scientist Dr. Nripen Gogoi, IRRI Specialist Dr. Vivek Kumar, APART Project Scientist Dr. Gayatree Goswami, APART Project Associate, Porismita Dutta and Research Technician, Champak Saikia.

The training programme started with the welcome speech delivered by Porismita Dutta. Chief Scientist Dr. Prabal Saikia highlighted the objective of the programme, laying stress on the necessity of the training on 'Resource Efficient Crop Management Methods' and 'Best Management Practices of Rice'.

On the other hand, IRRI Specialist Vivek Kumar elaborately discussed variety selection, seed cleaning, seed treatment, importance of quality seeds, nursery management, proper time of transplanting and main field preparation. Dr. Gayatree Goswami highlighted weed management with proper application of herbicides, timely and balanced application of fertilizers and also insect pest and disease management in rice fields. In addition, they also discussed selling paddy at Minimum Support Price (MSP) at Paddy Procurement Centres (PPCs) available in the districts. The programme was attended by more than 30 participants from Nowboicha and Lakhimpur Blocks and everyone present appreciated this informative training session.
