Dibrugarh: Ahead of the start of the Aadhaar registration process from October 6, through 43 Aadhaar Registration Centres in the district, DC Laya Madduri organized a training session on Thursday for the ones who have been assigned the task of verifying the documents of the applicants seeking Aadhaar at the DC office. Madduri also clarified that the process of Aadhaar registration would have no bearing on the ongoing NRC process. Asking the people not to panic, she categorically said, “Aadhaar card will never be used as a proof of citizenship.” She further said that the step instead involved the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) giving a 12-digit Aadhaar number to help the desired beneficiaries derive the various welfare benefits announced by the government. Madduri mentioned certain documents, including birth certificate, address proof certificate and identity card, that need to be submitted by the applicant at the respective registration centre. She also added that the applicant had to go through eye scanning, face recognition and thumb impression procedures at the centres.
