Trial Into Train Killings Begins in Sivasagar Court

JOYSAGAR: The Sivasagar District Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Thursday began the trial of the shocking upper Assam train serial murder incidents which took place in the Simaluguri Railway Junction and in the Mariani Railway Junction on July 10 and 11. The NF Railway Police and the Assam Police special operation team have arrested both the prime accused of the murders of the Assam Agriculture University student Radha Kumari (21) and one aged women of Tinsukia identified as Lalana Devi (46) on July 12.

Since then the accused are in judicial custody in Sivasagar Jail and due to not submission of the final case diary by the investigating Police team, the trial process remained pending. But finally on October 9, the police team submitted the final case diary running into about 195 pages including the statements of the deceased person’s family members. Following this the Sivasagar CJM Court has formally started the trial process on Thursday. Senior advocate of the Sivasagar bar Association Anil Dutta has been appointed as the Government prosecutor in the case and he duly has started the trial process.

Hundreds of local people, including several social organization leaders were present in the court premises raising slogans demanding capital punishment to the culprits.
