KOKRAJHAR: Reacting to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma's comments to give equal land rights to all in BTC, the tribal body led by Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha on Monday staged a three hour protest demonstration at Government HS& MP School playground demanding eviction of non protected class of people who are illegally occupying lands in tribal belts and blocks across the State and implementation of Land and Revenue Regulation Act.

Talking to media persons, the working president of BJSM DD Narzary said over 3.49 lakh bighas of tribal belts and blocks were under the illegal occupation of non protected class of people in BTC itself.

He said they have been demanding eviction of illegal encroachers from tribal belts and blocks and the Gauhati High Court has also already directed the DCs and Principal Secretary of BTC to evict all illegal encroachers but the government of Assam has not taken action so far which is encouraging the outsiders to continue the land grab in tribal areas. He also said Mojabari, now in Chirang district bordering Kokrajhar district was brought under tribal belt under Sidli Block in 1947 but this vast area is now under illegal occupation by a particular community who are from outside. He urged the government of Assam and BTC to act according to High Court order.
