It is with a heavy heart and tearful eyes that I write about the recent demise of Dr. Jiten Patowary, former prof. and head of Nephrology, Assam Medical College and professor of Medicine GMCH, Assam who was my brother three years senior to me. He was also the former president of Nephrology Society, Eastern India. His passing away has left a void in my life that seems insurmountable and the waves of grief washover me relentlessly.
Dr. Jiten Patowary was more than just a brother to me; he was my guiding light, my source of inspiration, and my mentor. From childhood to adulthood, he was always there, offering his support, wisdom, and unwavering love. He possessed an incredible intellect and acompassionate heart, which he dedicated to his lifelong pursuit of medicine. His journey in the field of medicine was marked by dedication, passion, and a genuine desire to alleviate the suffering of others. Born in an interior village Belsor, he rose high with academic and professional excellence shining at national and international arena. He was one of the pioneers in kidney transplantation works in the Northeast. As a doctor, professor and superspeciality consultant of many leading medical institutions, he touched the lives of countless individuals, extending his healing touch and bringing hope to those in need. His patients were not just names on a medical chart; they were human beings with stories, fears, and dreams. Dada understood this, and treated each person with utmost care, empathy, and respect. As his younger sibling, I had the privilege of witnessing first hand his tireless efforts and selfless dedication to his profession. He would often share stories of his patients, their triumphs, and their struggles. Through his experiences, he imparted invaluable lessons about compassion, empathy, and the profound impact that one person can make in the lives of others. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dada was a pillar of strength within our family. He had an infectious smile, a warm heart, and a knack for making those around him feel loved and cherished. He was the glue that held us together during challenging times, offering words of wisdom, encouragement, and comfort. His absence has created a void that can never be filled.
Dr Patowary leaves behind him his capable better half Phulmati Patowary, life long associated with Doctor’s profession and a super hero in his son, Dr Phuljit Patowary, who in the overseas at Tanzania took prodigious care of seriously ailing Dada 24x7 for years physically, mentally, financially, and medically before cremation at Nabagraha on June 8 in presence of family, friends and colleague doctors. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti!!!
