Tribute to my dearest Ata Saifuddin Ali Hazarika

My Dearest Ata (grandpa),

Spending 40 days without you is very tough. I have no words to express it. I miss your guidance and you. I miss the times in the evening where you would tell me and my little sister Zakia about many things from politics to books and to educational topics. I remember always you would tell me to read different books and read and keep the newspaper. There's no one to tell me that now. You always tell Zakia to not play video games too much. She misses the times you would always make jokes and crack her up, buy her chips and talk to her a lot about worldwide news, facts and many things. I remember you would tell me a lot about how it felt like to live in Germany, what things you ate and taught me some German language basics.

Ata went to Germany in 1970's and he lived there for a year. There's nothing he didn't know about from Assamese culture and literature, politics, books to worldwide news and facts. He gave me many books mostly related to quiz, knowledge and Assamese books. Ata always said to me "Learning Assamese is very important, learning our mother tongue is very necessary'. A well-read person, Ata gave me a couple of good novels to read. He appreciated every little thing and everyone. He always supported us and everyone whether sports, social work or related to education.

My Ata, Saifuddin Ali Hazarika, popularly known as Lal, was born on May 15, 1945. He studied in Government High Secondary School, North Lakhimpur. He went to North Lakhimpur College and graduated from St. Edmund's College, Shillong. After graduation, he joined the Communist Party of India. In 1991, he also contested for the 14 Lakhimpur HPC as a CPI candidate.

My Ata was a benevolent person who always helped people in need and supported poor students for their education. He always told us to never to lie to anyone. He was the first person to build a market in North Lakhimpur town in the 1980s. Ata was a visionary person who constructed the first market complex in North Lakhimpr in 1988. On the occasion of your chalisa today, I pray to the Almighty that your soul may rest in eternal peace.
