Losing near and dear ones is always painful. And the pain increases manifold when they happen to be one's beloved parents and one loses them in close succession in the most unexpected ways. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to us. Barely had we overcome the tragic loss of our beloved father Sachindra Dasgupta, who died COVID positive on November 20, 2021, our most adorable mother Kalyani Dasgupta too left for the ethereal world six days later after battling post-COVID complications. It was a huge jolt to us, a tragedy that has left us completely shell-shocked. For general information, our father, who was a retired Indian Railways employee, passed away at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) after having bravely but unsuccessfully battled COVID for five days.

Sadly, our mother, too had to be admitted at the same healthcare centre as her health condition deteriorated owing to the virus infection. But, to our relief, she tested negative and we brought her home. However, the virus took its toll on her fragile health as she was already battling dementia for quite some time now, and breathed her last on November 26, 2021, leaving us in perpetual tears. Son of Rohini Dasgupta and Khirobala Dasgupta of Hojai, our father was committed to the welfare of downtrodden since his youth and involved in many socio-cultural organisations.

He was a member of the managing committee of Indian Railways School, Bamunimaidan, Guwahati, besides being one of the founders of Akhanda Primary School, Bamunimaidan. A follower of Swarupananda, our father was also one of the founders of Akhanda Mandali, New Guwahati. A simple-hearted man, he was a man of great personal integrity and never compromised on his principles. Daughter of Upendra Dasgupta and Kamala Dasgupta, our mother was a resident of Panbazar, Guwahati. And if our father was a man of fortitude, our mother epitomized piety and warmth. Soft-spoken, she had a heart of gold and oozed oodles of love. Today, on the occasion of their Adya Shraddha, we pray for the moksha of our parents. Om Shanti!
