LAKHIMPUR: Rich tributes were paid to 17 martyrs of 1942 Gana Andolan or Quit India Movement in Lakhimpur district on Tuesday. They are Monbar Nath, Kumali Devi, Khahuli Nath, Chot Nath, Tileswari Baruah, Ratan Kachari, Moniram Boro, Mangal Kurmi, Dayal Das Panika, Mhiram Koch, Sarunath Chutia, Lerela Kachari, Kark Gour along with four martyrs.

Monbor Nath, the leader of the 'Mrityu Bahini' during the 'Quit India Movement' of Indian Freedom Movement was shot dead by British on September 20 in 1942 while he was hoisting the 'Swaraj Flag' of the nation on the roof of the Dhekiajuli Police Station by throwing away the that of the British. In addition to him, the rest aforementioned freedom fighters also made supreme sacrifice at the same spot by braving the British bullets for nation's freedom. On the other hand, Kanaklata Baruah and Mukunda Kakati embraced the martyrdom in Gohpur on the same day...
