Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Wednesday said that the All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) had no right to raise objection on suspected nationalities. In a statement, the president of the BJSM, Janaklal Basumatary said the ABMSU could not stop the objections raised against suspected illegal foreigners. He said the onus lay with the suspected foreigners to prove that they were not foreigners. So instead of trying to stop the complainants, the ABMSU should advise the suspected foreigners to prove that they were not foreigners by producing genuine documents.

“ABMSU by trying to stop the complaints against suspected foreigners, indulged in the illegal act of obstructing the citizens from performing their duty to complain against suspected foreigners as per the prevailing law of the land,” he said adding that in that case ABMSU had committed an illegal act and invited communal misunderstanding and tension.

Basumatary said the religious and linguistic minority had become majority in Assam. So the NRC process should be done carefully so that no foreigner could include his name in the NRC. He also said that the bandh called by ABMSU was illegal and liable to be strongly dealt with. The BJSM appealed to the government to deal with strongly against such unconstitutional and illegal activities.
