TEZPUR: A TB (tuberculosis) screening and awareness camp among pregnant women and adolescent girls in relation to Jon Andolan was held at Naharani TE under Balipara TB unit. The programme was organized by District Health Society, NTEP, Sonitpur.

The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Bhupesh Chandra Das in the presence of Biraj Baruah SDO (Sadar), Dr. Sanjoy Roy, District Tuberculosis Officer, Sonitpur, Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, Medical Inspector Plantation, Tezpur, Dr. Anupam Pareek, Naharani TE, NTEP staff and others.

Joydeep Roy, District PPM Coordinator, briefly discussed about the objectives, signs and symptoms of TB in perspective of Jon Andolan. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized active participation of all the sections of the society. He asked the participants to avail TB treatment as soon as it gets detected. He instructed the tea garden management to ensure complete validation of bank details of the TB patients to avail the benefits of PM Nikshay Poshan Yojna where a TB patient is liable to receive Rs 500 per month as nutritional support until the treatment is completed. He also suggested display of IEC materials in all the tea garden hospitals of the district for TB awareness.

Dr Sanjoy Roy, District Tuberculosis Officer, Sonitpur elaborately discussed about relevance of TB in the perspective of pregnant women and adolescent girls. Santosh Sharma, STS, Balipara TU highlighted the importance of Jon Andolan and briefed about TB and social responsibilities among the masses of the tea gardens. Dr. Pradip Kumar Lahkar requested the masses to avoid consumption of alcohol as it has adverse effects in the treatment of TB.

Dr. Anupam Pareek thanked the Deputy Commissioner, District Tuberculosis Officer, NTEP staffs and other participants for organizing the programme at Naharani TE. He also added that this programme would boost them in elimination of TB by 2025. The meeting ended with screening and sputum collection of pregnant women and adolescent girls.
