Two Arrested with 50 Kgs of Cannabis in Assam’s Cachar District

Silchar: Assam Police arrested two individuals and seized 50 kgs of cannabis from their vehicle in Cachar district on Friday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Acting on intelligence inputs, police intercepted a vehicle from a neighbouring state and recovered 50 bags of cannabis. The value of the seized drugs is yet to be ascertained. “Stride against drugs continues. Two people have been arrested, who will experience a different high now. Kudos @assampolice,” the chief minister posted on X.

Officials said necessary legal procedures have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which prohibits the possession, sale, and transport of cannabis, except for certain medical, scientific, or traditional uses like bhang.
