Two-day Census training gets underway in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: A two-day training of regular charge assistant and hired technical assistant for house listing and housing census operations for Census of India 2021 got underway here on Friday.

The two-day training is being conducted by the Directorate of Census Operations, Assam at Zilla Parishad conference hall.

Altogether 24 trainees would be imparted training by National Trainer-cum-Deputy Director of Census, S Mitra, Assistant Director, SM Mukharji and Senior Compiler, Monjit Paul.

Additional Deputy Commissioner cum District Registrar, RK Dam said the 2021 Census data will help in future planning of the country, especially for development initiatives and welfare schemes, and asked the people to provide accurate information and to participate wholeheartedly in the exercise.

The 2021 Census will be conducted through a mobile phone application, moving away from the traditional pen and paper to give Digital India a boost.

“Census data will be collected through a mobile app. This is for the first time that the mobile app will be used for the census exercise. India will be moving from the pen and paper census to digital data,” he added.

“Hailakandi’s population should be informed about its benefits. How, the census data could be used for future planning, development initiatives and welfare schemes. The census data is of utmost importance as it provides the basis for planning and development of the nation,” Dam said.

He appealed to census officials to carry out the exercise sincerely as it would help in nation building.

Assistant Commissioner, Sari L Lungtau and Circle Officer (A), Shoma Roy were present on the occasion.

The house listing will be carried out from April 20 to May 20 this year while population enumeration from February 9 to 28, 2021 along with revisional round from March 1 to 5 2021.
