Two day webinar on Assamese language held at Doomdooma college

DOOMDOOMA: A two day webinar on 'Studies on contemporary Assamese Language and Literature' was organised under the patronage of AXX (Axam Xahitya Xabha) and at the initiative of Assamese department of Bir Raghav Moran (BRM) Government Model College, here on Friday and Saturday.

Welcoming the gathering on the occasion, college Principal Dr Amarjit Saikiasaid that the webinar was a humble attempt on the part of the college to present a simplified version of the Assamese language before a larger world forum. He laid great stress on simplification of the language in order to attract the students pursuing their studies in English medium.

Delivering the inaugural speech, AXX president Dr Kuladhar Saikia revealed that a cross-section of people spread over 45 countries were eagerly looking forward to learn Assamese language. For them it has become imperative to simplify the Assamese language, adding that the AXX was endeavouring now to achieve that objective.

Altogether six sessions were held on two days on the main topic, where 95 teachers and research students presented their research papers. Dr Naba Kumar Handique of Dibrugarh University (DU), Ratanottam Das of Delhi University, Dr Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma of Anandaram Baruah Institute, Dr Prafulla Kumar Nath of Gauhati University and Dr Arup Kumar Nath, Dr Subrata Jyoti Neog — both from Tezpur University, took part as the resource persons.

On the concluding day of the webinar, a valedictory function was held, which was anchored by Assistant Professor Dr Pronita Neog and was attended by Arjun Baruah, President, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, Thomas Gogoi, President, Rupai Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Deepak Ranjan Baruah, Associate Professor, Doomdooma College and Dr Prafulla Kumar Nath(GU).

The anchors of the programme during the two days were Assistant Professors Dr Pronita Neog, Karabi Dutta and Nipam while the vote of thanks was offered by Dr Pranjal Talukdar, Assistant Professor, Mathematics and Co-ordinator, IQAC (Internal Quality Assessment Cell) of the College. He also looked after the technical aspects along with Assistant Professors, Sociology Dr Akshay Jyoti Mahanta and Dr Parismita Bhagawati of Political science department.
