Two drug peddlers held, brown sugar seized in Gaurisagar

GAURISAGAR: Gaurisagar Police on Sunday held two drug peddlers on NH-37 near Gaurisagar weekly market.

Police have identified them as Rupam Dey (27) of Amulapatty, Sivasagar under Sivasagar Sadar Police Station and Rubul Khan (42) of Hatikhuk, Sivasagar under Joysagar Police Outpost, who stay in a rented building near Dorbar field Tiniali. According to report, ASI Paban Saikia and other police personnel were checking vehicles due to ban on inter-district movement. They saw two youths on a Hero motorcycle from Jorhat bearing registration no AS O4 S 0359.

During checking, ASI Paban Saikia had doubts about their statement and brought them to the police station. Officer in-charge of Gaurisagar Police Station, Dibyajyoti Morang told media persons that they seized around 12.660 grams brown sugar worth Rs 40,000, cash Rs 18,820, two mobile handsets and PAN cards from their possession.

In the primary interrogation, they confessed that they brought the brown sugar from a person in Jorhat. Police investigation is on.
