Two important roads GNB Road and AT Road in Tinsukia town in deplorable condition

Our Correspondent

TINSUKIA: With innumerable potholes, two arterial roads under Tinsukia Municipal area -GNB Road and AT Road - are in a deplorable condition. Neither Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) nor PWD (Roads/NH) bother to do minimum patching jobs which do not entail much financial involvement. Both the roads have become highly prone to accidents with three-wheelers turning turtle almost every day.

Though the maintenance of GNB Road lies with PWD (Roads), the Executive Engineer Diganta Gogoi told this correspondent that his department had been advised not to touch the road as a scheme was incorporated under GNB Road beautification project envisaged as Urban and Development of Tinsukia town with project cost of Rs 200 crore. He then passed the buck to TMB. The condition of the 2-km road is deteriorating day-by-day even as the project has been rolling in the bureaucratic corridors since two years.

Recently, few media persons under Tinsukia District Journalists' Association met the Executive Officer of TMB, Gurnel Singh and urged upon him to carry out patching job before the roads turns into death traps. He assured the journalists that patching work with sand gravel would be done after MCC was lifted. It is more than three days now since election results were declared, nothing has been done till now.
