RANGIA: On the basis of intelligence input, a joint anti-human trafficking operation was carried out on Thursday by 24th Bn SSB Rangia and ACRD, a Guwahati-based NGO under the command of Navneet Kumar Yadav, Assistant Commandant. The team rescued two minor girls from Bhogpur village under Goreswar Police Station.

On spot interrogation revealed that the minor girls were victims of domestic violence and one of them was allegedly raped by her own father of a nearby village under Goreswar Police Station, district Baksa. The accused has been absconding and an FIR has already been lodged against him at Goreswar Police Station. Later, both minor girls were handed over to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Mushalpur for their care and rehabilitation.

Hrishikesh Sharma, Commandant, 24th Bn SSB Rangia, said that this joint operation was a major breakthrough in countering human trafficking on Indo- Bhutan border and will act as a strong deterrence for human traffickers in future. He said that unit had done several noticeable anti human-trafficking operations in the past and rescued more than 50 poor boys and girls from the clutches of traffickers during the year.
