Two trafficked minor girls rescued from Yupia of Arunachal Pradesh by Lakhimpur police

LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur police rescued two trafficked teenaged girls from Yupia of Arunachal Pradesh by launching an effective operation. Regretfully, the father of one of the two victim girls had sold his daughter at Yupia along with the other girl.

The police team led by Dhakuakhana Subdivisional Police Officer Mohan Lal Meena, assisted by Officer-in-charge of Ghilamara Police Station, Bhobhen Dhingia, arrested the father, Phulen Gohain and his wife Sonu Gohai while recovering the minor girls.

As per report, Sushil Barman, son of Rajendra Barman, resident of Mohmara Dighali Gaon filed a complaint on July 13 at Ghilamara Police Station with regard to the two missing girls. In the complaint, he stated that his daughter Deepa Barman (13) and another girl from the neighbourhood, Sushmita Gohain had gone missing from home. Sushmita is the daughter of Phulen Gohain who is a permanent resident of Mohmara Dighali Gaon under Ghilamara PS.

As per the complaint, the OC of Ghilamara PS, Bhoben Dhingia registered a case vide FIR 88/2019 U/s 366(A) and started the investigation in search of the missing girls. After an initial examination of witnesses and technical evidences, it came out that the accused Phulen Gohain had enticed the minor girls. It also came in light that Phulen Gohain had three wives and did not stay with the mother of the victim girl. His third wife Sonu Gohain actively helped the accused to entice the minor girls and took them to Yupia under Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh where Phulen Gohain stayed with his third wife.

Based on the technical inputs, social media and call records of various people, the police team led by Dhakuakhana SDPO Mohan Lal Meena, and OC of Ghilamara PS, Bhobhen Dhingia recovered the minor girls from the place and arrested the accused Phulen Gohain and his wife Sonu Gohain during the wee hours on July 23. From the accused, police seized two PAN cards and one Aadhar card which were under fake names.
