UBPO calls upon government to release Ranjan Daimary

LAKHIMPUR: United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) has called upon the State Government to release National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) founder president Ranjan Daimary from imprisonment for ensuring development and peace among the Bodo community people. UBPO president Manoranjan Basumatary on Sunday made this appeal to the government while delivering his lecture as the chief guest in the open session of the first biennial conference of Lakhipur regional unit of UBPO.

"Three Bodo peace accords were inked as the result of long movement initiated with the demands for political, socio-economic, academic and cultural development of the Bodo community people. We have called upon the State Government to implement the recommendations of the third Bodo Peace Accord inked among governments at the Center and in the State ABSU, UBPO and four units of NDFB on January 27 in 2020. We have further called upon the State Government to release NDFB founder president Ranjan Daimary from imprisonment to ensure development among the people of Bodo community and to usher in peace," Manoranjan Basumatary stated.

In the event, Chief Executive Member of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Mihiniswar Basumatary was present as special guest of honour. While delivering lecture, Mihiniswar Basumatary said that the BKWAC, which was constituted as a result of the Third Bodo Peace Accord for the comprehensive development and progress of 10 lakh Bodo people living in 22 districts outside BTR, would be working with dedication and conviction to develop each and every Bodo community area within its jurisdiction. In this regard, he called upon the people to extend their cooperation with due awareness and alertness.

UBPO executive member Umakanta Brahma graced the occasion as appointed speaker. He stated that UBPO would work for the development, progress and security of the Bodo community and to build a foundation of solidarity, unity and integrity with other communities. On the other hand, BKWAC Executive Member (Education) Anil Basumatary delivered his lecture on new National Education Policy.

The event was organized at the Pukhuripara Community Hall at Besorkhana. The agenda of the concluding day of the two-day long event began with the unfurling of the organizational flag by Lakhipur regional unit UBPO president Abhiram Bodo while vice-president Subhanarayan Basumatary conducted the swahid tarpan programme. The open session of the event commenced with Abhiram Bodo in the chair. It was inaugurated by Bodo Writers' Association secretary Subharam Basumatary.
