KOKRAJHAR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), which has been struggling for the formation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council since many years, on Wednesday hailed the State cabinet for its decision to make the new council a reality by bringing requisite bill through ordinance.

In the new development, over 600 leaders and members of the UBPO will formally join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a function to be held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati on October 9. This was informed by the general secretary of the UBPO. The members and supporters of the organization celebrated the declaration of the State cabinet to form the new council by bringing bill through ordinance.

An executive committee meeting of the UBPO, which was presided over by Mihiniswar Basumatary, president of the organization, was held on Wednesday at Bathoupuri, Garchuk in Guwahati and discussed in details the action taken by the State Government to form the much awaited Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) for the Boro Kachari people living outside the jurisdiction of BTC for their speedy socio-economic growth and development, political rights and to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of these people.

Talking to this correspondent, the general secretary of the UBPO, Anil Basumatary said that the UBPO, through the executive meeting, hailed the cabinet meeting of the State Government held on Wednesday regarding formation of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council and implementation of Bodo language as the associate State official language of Assam. He said the organization also discussed about the organizational matter and resolved that all the districts and Anchalik committees of the UBPO would remain unaltered till the next annual conference. Further, the UBPO directed all the district and Anchalik committees to hoist the organizational flags in their respective offices on October 8 to commemorate the achievements.

The UBPO thanked Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Phani Sharma, general secretary of State BJP, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, and State BJP president Ranjit Dass for their productive role and contribution towards Bodo nation building inclusively.
