KOKRAJHAR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) on Thursday urged the Government of Assam to introduce the requisite bill for the formation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council (BKAC) outside BTC region for the socio-economic development and protection of language and literature of the Boro Kachari people living outside BTC.

Talking to this reporter, the general secretary of the UBPO, Anil Basumatary said an executive meeting of the organization was held on Thursday at Bodoland Guest House, Guwahati with its president Mihiniswar Basumatary in the chair. He said some resolutions were adopted in the meeting to press the Government of Assam to bring a bill for the formal creation of BKAC as per the spirit of the BTR accord signed on January 27, 2020 between the Government of India, Government of Assam, leaders of four factions of NDFB, ABSU and UBPO.

Basumatary said the UBPO was hopeful that the Government of Assam would bring the requisite bill for the creation of BKAC during the summer assembly session to be held from August 31. He said the formation of BKAC was part of clause 5.1 of the BTR accord and the UBPO had high hopes of the bill being introduced in the summer assembly session as the State Government was responsible for implementing clause 5.1 of BTR accord. He said the UBPO resolved to move the State Government for creation of BKAC taking the leaders of all frontal Bodo organizations. He also urged the Government of Assam to change the nomenclature from Boro Kachari Welfare Council as mentioned in the MoS of BTR accord to Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), as suggested by the Government of Assam.

The general secretary of the UBPO said they would invite the leaders of all Bodo organizations, intellectuals and individuals to move the Government of Assam to take necessary action to decide the villages to be included in the new council. He also said that the UBPO resolved to urge the governments of India and Assam to implement all the clauses of the BTR Accord in letter and spirit for the interest of peace and rapid development of the region.
