 Over 3,000 delegates to take part

LAKHIMPUR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) is all set to conduct its 9th annual conference with a three-day long colourful programme from January 5 to January 7. The event has been organized at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari in Guwahati.

Through a press release, UBPO president Monuranjan Basumatary, general secretary Pitambar Brahma informed that over 3,000 delegates of the organization from almost all the districts of the State along with Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Tripura would participate in the conference in addition to the observers and the cultural troupes. Moreover, delegates from other countries, like Bangladesh and Nepal, will also take part in the extravaganza.

According to the same press release, the agenda of the first day on Thursday will kickstart at 8 am with the ceremonial opening of the main gate of the conference venue by minister Jayanta Mallabaruah. It will be followed by the inauguration of Swachhta Abhiyan by senior journalist Bhargab Kumar Das, dining hall by Kamrup (metro) Zila Parishad chairperson Hirumoni Konwar, main stage and pandal by ADGP Hiren Chandra Nath, guest house by Mayor Mrigen Sarania, exhibition and trade fair by Deputy Commissioner Pallab Kumar Jha, volleyball competition by Dispur MLA Atul Borah.

It will be followed by the registration of the delegates. From 4 pm, a special open session will be held, wherein Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale and BTC chief Pramod Boro will take part. The programme will be inaugurated by State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika. From 7 pm, the first delegates' session will commence. It will be inaugurated by UBPO adviser Birendra Kumar Brahma.

The second day agenda of the event on Friday will start with unfurling of the organizational flag by president Manuranjan Basumatary. Boro Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro will attend the event as guest of honour. Then swahid tarpan programme will be conducted by adviser Bipin Goyari while a souvenir titled as Guwahati Kharimini, along with the UBPO's mouthpiece Khousethini Fungkha will be released by minister UG Brahma. The occasion will be graced as guest of honour by Bru Social-Cultural Organization president Shanti Kumar Reang and Dr Subungsa Mussahari. It will be followed by a series of literary competitions. ABSU president Dwipen Boro will inaugurate the symposium to be held from 1 pm on the same day. Tripura University Associate Professor Dr. Lincoln Reang, BKWAC Deputy CEM Romeo Narzary, Sahitya Akademi award winner Dr Premananda Mussahari will take part in the symposium as resource persons. The second delegates' session will commence from 5 pm. Then a cultural event will be inaugurated by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.

On the concluding day on Saturday, the prize distribution ceremony will be held from 9 am, wherein Geetartha Goswami, the member of the Student and Youth Welfare Advisory Committee, Government of Assam, will be present as guest of honour. On that day, the open session of the event will commence from 11 am with Manuranjan Basumatary in the chair. It will be inaugurated by ALA speaker Biswajit Daimari while reception committee president, MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita will deliver the welcome address. BKWAC chief Mihiniswar Basumatary will grace the occasion as appointed speaker. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the programme as chief guest while ministers Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, KAAC chief Dr Tuliram Ranghang, Lok Sabha MP Pradan Baruah, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, MAC Chief Paramananda Chayengiya, dignitaries of various Bodo community frontal organizations will be present as guests of honour.
