Udalguri administration gears up for smooth conduct of Lok Sabha poll

TANGLA: The poll bugle has been sounded with Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora declaring the dates for the forthcoming general elections on Sunday. The district administration of Udalguri have geared up to conduct free and fair polls for the 8 no Mangaldai LS constituency which will go to polls on April 18.

Udalguri district covers four assembly constituencies - 64 Paneri LAC, 65 Kalaigaon LAC, 69 Udalguri LAC (ST) and 70 Mazbat LAC. But the ECI has put 65 Kalaigaon LAC under the control of Darrang district administration for convenience. An urgent election meeting was conveyed at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri on Monday. It was presided over by DC-cum-Returning Officer, Udalguri, Dilip Kumar Das. The meeting was attended by representatives of all political parties and media persons.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Das explained about the urgency of following and monitoring the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the district till the announcement of the LS results. Referring to few sensitive issues, he informed media and political parties that no election meeting or campaign would be allowed in any religious institution. Use of microphone or loud speakers too would be banned from 10 pm to 6 am. The DC also strictly warned all not to use photos of defence personal to woo voters during election campaign.

ADC of Udalguri, Amarjyoti Barman also briefed the media and political leaders in the meeting. He informed that nine Static Surveillance teams, six Video Surveillance teams and one Video Viewing team would be monitoring the LS poll activities in the district till the date of the poll. He exhorted people to install C vigil application from Google Play Store in Android devices for instant uploading of any complains or videos against the violation of MCC. He also urged people to use 1950 (Voters Helpline Number) anytime till the poll was over. The meeting was also attended by Project Director, Udalguri, Pranjit Wary; SDO (Civil) Bhergaon subdivision, Gokul Brahma; District Election Officer Nilotpal Pathak and Nilakshi Baishya, Assistant Commissioner of Udalguri, Nilakshi Baishya, among others.
