ORANG: Turning words into action, Udalguri District Commissioner Pulak Patgiri rolled up his sleeves and joined citizens in a hands-on cleanliness drive at Thulunga Bazaar near Udalguri Railway Station on Friday. The initiative, part of the district-wide preparations for the 79th Independence Day, was organised by the Udalguri Municipal Board with support from the District Administration and MRSD NGO.
Leading a team of officials, municipal workers, and local volunteers, Patgiri personally collected waste, sending out a powerful message that cleanliness begins with community responsibility. He urged shopkeepers to remove roadside encroachments, keep their premises clean, and ensure safe pedestrian and vehicle movement. Municipal Executive Officer Partha Pratim Saikia was directed to take prompt measures to maintain open and accessible pathways.
Municipal Chairman Rakesh Boro announced that dustbins will be distributed to every shopkeeper and garbage will be collected regularly for a nominal fee. “A clean town is everyone’s duty,” he reminded.
The event saw the participation of senior district officials, municipal staff, sanitation workers, MRSD NGO members, and residents, all working shoulder-to-shoulder to transform the market area. Collected waste was swiftly removed using municipal vehicles, symbolizing a united effort towards a cleaner and healthier Udalguri.
