TANGLA/UDALGURI: Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia, who was under home quarantine for the last few days, tested COVID-19 positive on Thursday.

He was recently transferred and posted as Secretary, State Election Commission while CEO of Zila Parishad, Dhubri and PD, DRDA, Dhubri, Purabi Konwar was transferred and posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri. However, she is yet to arrive and take charge.

Talking to this correspondent, Joint Director of Health and Services, Dr. Tayebur Rahman confirmed the report and said that the swab was collected and sent to the COVID-19 testing lab in Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) where it was reported to be positive.

Sources said that Gharphalia interacted with five National Health Mission (NHM) workers of Udalguri who later tested positive for the contagion, following which he was suffering from mild cough and fever and was under self-quarantine. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Udalguri rose to 146. Out of them, 113 have recovered while the number of active cases is 33.
