GUWAHATI: Assam Rifles, with the help of Tirap police, apprehended a cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday night.

The arrested ULFA- I cadre was identified as Dwipen Asom, alias Dibyajyoti Senapati of Dibrugarh district in Upper Assam.

He was reportedly nabbed by the security forces near Noklok village along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tirap district.

According to reports, the cadre had escaped from an ULFA (I) camp in Nepal a few days ago and entered India illegally. Harsh living conditions coupled with lack of motivation is believed to have prompted the cadre to escape.

The security forces are now keeping the cadre at an Assam Rifles camp at Khonsa in Tirap district, where further investigation is on.

Earlier on August 26, in a joint operation carried out by security forces, including the police, two active cadres of United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I) were apprehended at Noglo village under Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh 2022.

Based on intelligence inputs, security forces in a joint operation with state police, apprehended two active cadres of ULFA (I) and recovered one .32mm pistol with Magazine and 7 rounds of live ammunition.

The apprehended cadres were handed over to Tirap Police for further investigation, along with the recovered items, in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh.

In another incident, just one day ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Tinsukia police in Assam arrested one man and a woman on suspicion of having links with United Liberation Front Assam-Independent (ULFA-I).

According to reports, the arrested woman was identified as Mrinali Gogoi, a resident of Nagaon village in Panitola area under Tinsukia district. She is believed to have been acting as an ULFA-I linkman and encouraging the local youth to join the militant outfit.
