ULFA (I) Decides Not To Call For 'Assam Bandh' On Republic Day

Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA-Independent (ULFA-I) has decided not call bandh on Republic Day 2022.

The outfit has also decided not to conduct any armed protests on January 26.

Notably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had appealed the outfit not to declare any band or issue any boycott call earlier.

Taking to the micro-blogging site twitter on Sunday, the Assam Chief Minister apprised the same and requested the outfit to come forward for a meaningful discussion with Government of India.

''I welcome ULFA's decision not to call a bandh and desist from any resistance during Republic Day. I take this opportunity to once again appeal to Shri Paresh Baruah to come forward for a meaningful discussion with Govt of India,'' Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

The ULFA-I on August 15 last year too had not called any band. The outfit has declared a ceasefire from May 15, 2021, which is being renewed at regular intervals.

Interestingly, Indian authorities too have stepped back from conducting any operations against ULFA-I.
