Uncertainty looms large over Dima Hasao district

HAFLONG: Since there has been no sign of an end to incessant rain, restoration of communications and reaching out to the people in distress seems to be uncertain in Dima Hasao.

There has been no communication with the affected parts of the district as there is no mobile connectivity. The District Disaster Management Authority headed by the Deputy Commissioner has been in touch with the government. Relief to the people is being made available but the lack of communication has cause difficulties even to assess the loss and damages caused by the incessant rain and landslides.

Some places like Diyungmukh, Maibang, Harangajao, Mahur have also been affected by flood. Many places of the district have become landlocked and totally cut-off from the rest of the country as there is no connectivity. DDMA, with the assistance of Indian Air Force, arranged airlifting of people who need medical assistance and senior citizens.

Meanwhile, DDMA has established 10 relief camps, six at Haflong and four at Maibang (four) for more than 700 affected people. Guardian Minister Jogen Mohon, who was on the way to Haflong, instructed the NH authority and Railway officials at Maibang to restore both the rail and road communications with top priority. The condition of New Haflong station yard is a matter of concern as landslides have affected the yard very badly. Various NGOs of Dima Hasao have appealed to the masses not to panic and come forward to help each other in this time of natural disaster.
