Under RAWEP, AAU students start working with farmers

As a part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programmme (RAWEP), a group of B. Sc.(Agri) final year students from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, commenced their activities in the fields of the farmers of Sonitpur district, under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tezpur.

TEZPUR: As a part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programmme (RAWEP), a group of B. Sc.(Agri) final year students from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, commenced their activities in the fields of the farmers of Sonitpur district, under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tezpur.

Programme Supervisor Angana Sharma, assigned by Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat acknowledged that the RAWEP programme will help the B.Sc.(Agri) final year students to learn about the practical aspects of crop production, farming situation, field activities and to identify the problems of farming community by working with the farmer's family, besides gaining practical wisdom from experienced traditional farmers. This two-way interaction will also help the farmers to become aware about the improved agricultural technologies developed by the university to boost agricultural production in a sustainable manner.

Three villages, namely Amolapam, Napam Chapori and Juglani have been selected for the RAWEP activity and host farmers are allotted to each of the 35 students stationed at KVK, Sonitpur.

A wall magazine titled Krishani was inaugurated by Prakash Chandra Borah, District Agricultural Officer-cum-Joint Director of Sonitpur at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, the theme of which was 'Use of Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITKs) in crop production by the farming community'.
