GUWAHATI: The Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia is likely to make a visit to Gauhati University on February 25, 2025, coinciding with the first day of 'Advantage Assam 2.0'. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, had extended an invitation during a recent meeting with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Scindia in New Delhi.

Prof. Mahanta said that he was eagerly looking forward to the visit and added, "Gauhati University has a rich history of providing quality higher education in Northeast India." We are excited to welcome Shri Scindia and Shri Pradhan to our campus.” He noted that Minister Pradhan would also inform the university about his visit and plans to deliver an annual lecture.

During the discussion, Minister Pradhan brought greater focus to skill-enhancing courses and high-end research in broadening job markets in the future. He appreciated the unique attributes of the university, such as the botanical garden, and demanded that the university spearhead regional debates on sustainability issues.

The VC said that Scindia will visit the campus on February 25, 2025, after chairing a session in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Advantage Assam Summit. Prof Mahanta mentioned that the two ministers' visits will uphold Gauhati University as an institute par excellence and rather reiterate its promise of providing students with world-class education and knowledge.

Prof Mahanta said that Scindia has been a strong supporter of the university’s initiatives and has committed to support its growth. “Shri Scindia was highly reassuring in extending his support to the University for which we are very grateful. His visit will certainly inspire both the faculty and students at Gauhati University,” said Prof Mahanta.
