United Forum of Ex-NDFB calls on CM, urges for release of Ranjan Daimary

KOKRAJHAR: A delegation of the United Forum of Ex-NDFB led by its president Chila Basumatary and secretary Dil Ranjan Narzary called on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and held a meeting in Guwahati on Sunday to discuss the issues of jailed NDFB leaders and members. The forum submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister, urging him to take an urgent initiative to release the founder president of the NDFB, Ranjan Daimary and other jailed members and to implement the clauses 9.2,9.3,9.4 and 10.2 of the BTR Accord.

In the memorandum, they said the Bodo Peace Accord of 2020 was signed between the Government of India, Government of Assam, NDFB, ABSU and UBPO under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 27, 2020. They said the accord had brought hopes of lasting peace in the Bodo region. However, the delay in the release Ranjan Daimary, founder president of NDFB, and prime signatory of the Bodo Peace Accord and other leaders and cadres who are in jail, has been a matter of concern for all leaders of the forum in particular and the people of the region as a whole. They also demanded the implementation of clauses 9.2, 9.3, 9.4 and 10.2 of the BTR Accord.

The forum said that a division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Justice Michael Zothankhuma and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita acquitted five accused in the Dhemaji bomb blast on August 15, 2004. The forum appealed to the Chief Minister to take necessary steps for releasing Ranjan Daimari and other leaders and cadres for the greater interest of peace and harmony in the region. They also sought intervention of the Chief Minister in transferring their legal proceedings to the Gauhati High Court in Assam for speedy trial and acquittals.

Meanwhile, the vice president of the United Forum of Ex-NDFB, Naisrang Borgoyari, while talking to this correspondent, said the meeting with the Chief Minister was very positive. He said the Chief Minister had assured to take all necessary measures to release Ranjan Daimary and other members as soon as possible. He also said they were hopeful that something will happen as early as possible.

The meeting with the Chief Minister was also attended by the president of ABSU, Dipen Boro and founder president of Bodo Women’s Justice Forum, Dr Anjali Daimary.
