Unruly youths vandalize Bihu venue in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: An untoward incident took place at Kendriya Rongali Utsav-2022 celebration venue in North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School playground on Friday night.

As per the report, a section of unruly youths, who were in drunken condition vandalized the Bihu celebration venue by breaking almost two hundred chairs, a big amount of electrical items and other things. It is known that a section of unruly youths entered the reserved area in front of the stage by jumping over the concrete wall at the side of the Lakhimpur Commerce College location. Vocal artiste Zubin Garg was about to perform on the stage. The police personnel and the volunteers of the Bihu celebration committee prevented the unruly youths from entering the reserved area. Then these unruly youths broke the bamboo barricade and manhandled the police personnel and the volunteers. They further started to break the chairs and electrical items and it compelled the police personnel to conduct lathi charge. These unruly youths even attempted to break the cameras of the electronic media.

Notably, it was the concluding day of the cultural function of the Kendriya Rongali Utsav-2022 which was organized on Friday night after holding the souvenir release programme and the prize distribution ceremony. Zubin Garg took to the stage at around 1:00am to present his cultural programme.

Prior to him, vocal artiste Diju Baruah performed. It is known that people from other neighbouring districts of Lakhimpur also arrived at the Bihu celebration venue of the playground in the early hours of the evening in order to enjoy the cultural programme to be presented by Zubin Garg. A section of drunk youths entered the playground . It is alleged that police had not initiated adequate measures to control this section of unruly youths before the function started.
