Urkhao Gwra Brahma unfurls Tricolor in Chirang district

Chirang district administration celebrated the 75th Independence Day with pomp and gaiety on Sunday.

KOKRAJHAR: Chirang district administration celebrated the 75th Independence Day with pomp and gaiety on Sunday. The main ceremony was held at the district parade ground, where Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Minister for Handloom and Textile, Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Bodoland Welfare department hoisted the National Flag and inspected the parade as well as took the salute at the march past presented by Chirang district police and 12 Granadier (army).

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma said about the significance of the day and highlighted various developmental works being implemented by various departments in the state as well in Chirang district. Following the ceremonial march past, in a bid to increase the faith of family members of Saheed Jawans in the Indian forces and to send a positive message to the society, the dependents of Saheed Raheswar Barua, Saheed Sadan Basumatary, and Saheed Dharmendra Ray, all from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were ceremonially honoured and announced to name three roads of the district after their names by the district administration.

On the occasion, the district administration also honored and felicitated Sub- Inspectors Ram Charan Rabha and Pranab Kumar Deka, who played key role in rescuing the trafficked children from Sikkim, social worker Sujit Basumatary, progressive farmers Akbar Ali Ahmed and Amorsing Basumatary, including 7 COVID-19 warriors and 3 prospective weavers. Prizes for yoga competitions and essay writing competitions organized in connection with the celebration Independence Day were also distributed to the winners during the programme. The celebration was also marked by paying floral tribute to freedom fighters at Saheed Tarpan situated at the premises of Deputy Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon.
